CRduo present their debut album “Piazzolla Centenario”
This duo of Costa Rican musicians and lifelong friends, who met again in Europe, release their heartfelt tribute to the great Ástor Piazzolla with new arrangements for violin and guitar.
CRduo is made up of violinist André Robles Field and guitarist Carlos Alberto Castro, who live in Germany and Austria, respectively. These two young but experienced Costa Rican musicians perform masterpieces in their own concert arrangements for violin and guitar in a virtuosic way.
Their debut album “Piazzolla Centenario” is a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest musical geniuses of the 20th century. One hundred years after his birth, the great Ástor Piazzolla (March 11, 1921 — July 4, 1992) is celebrated and remembered as the masterful Argentinian composer and bandoneon player who completely revolutionized the world of tango and led it to its highest level of refinement, fusing it with jazz and art music. This emotional journey through his music (originally composed for tango quintet) consists of 10 original arrangements by Carlos Alberto Castro (with the close collaboration of André Robles Field on the violin edition). These arrangements are tailor-made for the personal way of playing of Robles and Castro, while they fully exploit the technical and timbrical possibilities of violin and guitar.
This recording includes the four Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) as well as another 6 of Piazzolla's most inspired pieces: Revirado, Adiós Nonino, Vuelvo al Sur, Oblivion, Libertango and Calambre. CRduo dare to take risks using unconventional techniques to explore for new textures that represent human emotions and arouse deep feelings in the public.
The name of this ensemble is derived from the initials of their last names —Castro & Robles— and their native country —Costa Rica—. Despite living far from their homeland, Carlos and André still represent their identity as “ticos” (Costa Ricans) living in Europe: their new home that offered them greater horizons to nurture their art. CRduo is characterized by their almost telepathic synchronization, their fascination with sound amalgamation and their unconditional commitment to performance.
The album was released under the record label Baros Records and can be purchased through the CRduo website: www.CRduo.cc. In addition, it is available to enjoy via streaming on all major digital platforms from March 11, 2022: just in time for the last day of Piazzolla's centennial: https://crduo.fanlink.to/PiazzollaCentenario
