“Where words leave off, music begins.” - Heinrich Heine
CRduo are two young and energetic musicians, who grew up learning classical music on their respective instruments but also surrounded by the Latin American popular music that they proudly love as well. Those vibrant rhythms, colorful harmonies, singing phrasing and even dancing elements are part of their idiosyncrasy.
Beyond the usual violin and guitar duo format, CRduo presents an avant-garde proposal through thrilling virtuoso music. Their programme consciously avoids the standard repertoire for this instrumental combination as a clear artistic statement. They only play self-made arrangements or own transcriptions of timeless music that suit their artistic convictions, their way of playing and their repertoire profile. At the same time they are expanding the repertoire for violin and guitar with new concert arrangements of high quality art music.
Remaining faithful to their cultural background, they have the deep conviction of playing mainly music of Latin American and Spanish composers from the 20th and 21st century, but with the same exigency and rigour as with the so-called “classical music”.
Carlos and André are committed to the search for a distinguishable duo sound identity. They are constantly seeking after an audience who can appreciate deep music and in exchange, CRduo offers an emotional journey through their performances without using words... from the intimate goosebumps to the most overwhelming euphoria!
VISION
CRduo is a unique blend of two of the most beloved instruments: violin and guitar. Castro and Robles dare to take risks using unconventional technical resources to search for new music textures in order to represent human feelings and to awake deep emotions in the audience. They are excited to keep developing their musicianship and their duo sound blend in order to contribute innovative arrangements of significant works.
Their goal is to push the limits forward of what can be done with this particular sound mixture, not only technically —with new effects in the instrumentation— but also artistically —evoking the most intrinsic feelings of human expression—.
Moreover, CRduo has the foresight of transforming existing works —originally for another instrumentation whether solo or chamber music— to rediscover new facets in them and trying to bring them to a new level of expressiveness. Their interpretations aim to be as detailed, authentic and profound as possible. This is the reason why they always discuss every musical aspect of their playing with the intention of making allegory of very deep emotions and everyday life situations.
Their “Piazzolla Centenario'' project fits like a glove for those ideals. This first recording project on the occasion of the centennial of unquestionably one of the greatest geniuses of Argentinian tango includes 10 original concert arrangements by Carlos Alberto Castro (with the close collaboration of André Robles Field in the violin edition): four of those are the Estaciones Porteñas (Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) and also six of Ástor Piazzolla’s most inspired pieces.
